Howto: Customize a search provider in Internet Explorer 7.0
It’s great to have a default search-provider in my Internet Explorer 7 – which in my case is Google.
However – I’ve been irritated that it primarily searches using Google UK and for sites in english – I wanted it to use the Google Denmark and to search for sites in danish.
The way to change it is:
- Open your registry editor (make sure you have a working backup)
- Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\
- In this key you have different ID-keys for each search provider, and you just have to change the one specific to your requests.
My google searcher now looks like:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{B9B98F56-AB44-4C03-87E8-078BAB8ABA16}]
“DisplayName”=”Google”
“URL”=http://www.google.dk/search?hl=da&q={searchTerms}&meta=
